An entrepreneur ready for a new layer in their leadership is not short of options these days. Wolves & Warriors, Unplugged Outdoor, Culture Cees, JustNik, Eline Massin and Element X each offer their own version of the same starting point: step back, go deeper, come back different.
The problem is not that there is too little on offer. It is that all these providers largely speak the same language: transformation, depth, leadership, pushing limits. And yet the formats, locations, duration and approach differ fundamentally.
This article lays out the facts. No ranking and no verdict, just concrete information so you can see faster which format matches what you are looking for.

What sets these providers apart?
Wolves & Warriors
Wolves & Warriors combines a five day week in Spain with a lead in and follow up spread over several months. The group usually numbers around sixteen. The content centres on mindset, resilience and personal transformation at a fixed venue. Founder Kurt Goossens has a background in the judicial police. There is a separate edition for women: Warrior Queens.
Unplugged Outdoor, Summit & Strategy
Unplugged Outdoor concentrates six days in the Picos de Europa. The programme combines mastermind sessions with a night out in the mountains. The group is capped at ten participants.
Culture Cees
Culture Cees spreads six session days across nine months, each at a different location in the Netherlands. That makes the time commitment per session smaller, but the programme as a whole longer.
JustNik
JustNik works with strikingly small groups, four participants plus a guide, in Tyrol. Daily walking, bootcamp or yoga is central. The small scale allows for intensive, tailored work.
Eline Massin, Sun & Rise
Eline Massin offers shorter business retreats of three or five days, with the emphasis on mastermind sessions around each participant's own case.
Element X
Element X works differently from the other providers on this list. The core is not a retreat but a demanding expedition into a remote wilderness region: Kyrgyzstan, Patagonia, the Arctic, Oman, the Atlas mountains, the Carpathians or the French Ardennes. Group size sits between six and twelve.
What sets Element X apart, on four points
Preparation as a full part of the programme
The programme starts three to six months before the expedition. A kick off day, individual physical build up, leadership coaching, medical screening and gear advice are all part of it. Participants arrive at the start line as a team, not as a collection of individuals.
The environment as an instrument
Extreme environments surface behaviour that stays hidden in a seminar room. How someone responds to cold, exhaustion or uncertainty says more about their leadership than any role play.
An expedition leader with a track record
Koen De Leeuw, former para commando and television expedition leader on De Expeditie Namibia and De Expeditie Patagonia, has already guided hundreds of people through extreme environments.
Integration after the expedition
The return to daily reality is part of the programme. What you experience in the wilderness either lands in your working life, or it does not.
Where Element X can take you
The format is fixed, the destination is not. These four come up most often with individual entrepreneurs.
- Carpathians: wilderness training with bivouac and navigation, the shortest route to genuinely remote terrain.
- Kyrgyzstan: ten days of trekking, packrafting and horse riding in the Tian Shan range.
- Escape The Arctic: eight days in Lapland at minus thirty, the sharpest end of the spectrum.
- Xtreme Patagonia: ten days in a region where four seasons in one day is the norm.
Which leadership programme fits you?
The right choice comes down to two questions that are rarely asked out loud.
Question 1: what time commitment suits you?
A single continuous week, as with Wolves & Warriors, Unplugged Outdoor and JustNik, asks for different planning than a programme running over months, as with Element X and Culture Cees. Both can be worthwhile, but they suit different phases.
Question 2: do you mainly want to think, or also to experience?
With some providers, mastermind and coaching carry the weight. With others, what is asked of you physically, the wilderness, the cold and the fatigue, is a deliberate part of the learning.
Once those two questions are answered, the comparison gets a lot easier. If what you really want to know is how you function under pressure, there is more on that in Deciding under pressure.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a leadership retreat and a leadership expedition?
A retreat is usually a stay at a fixed location, focused on reflection, rest or coaching. An expedition adds a physical journey through unfamiliar, extreme terrain, with everything that brings in terms of uncertainty, group dynamics and hitting your limits.
Who are leadership programmes for entrepreneurs meant for?
Most providers in this overview target active entrepreneurs and C level managers who want to take a next step in personal leadership, resilience or self awareness. They are not intended for people in crisis.
Are these programmes tax deductible?
In most cases, yes. If the programme is tied to leadership development and you follow it in the context of running your business, it is deductible as a professional expense in Belgium and the Netherlands. The condition is a clear link with your activity as an entrepreneur. Keep invoices and descriptions that demonstrate that link.
Wondering whether an expedition suits you?
Many entrepreneurs who contact us have had the feeling for a while that they are looking for something beyond a retreat or a seminar. Whether an expedition to Kyrgyzstan, Patagonia or the Arctic fits their phase, fitness and calendar, though, they do not yet know.
That is exactly what the discovery call is for. Not a sales pitch, but an honest conversation about where you stand, what you are looking for and whether Element X is the answer.
