 EXPEDITION ECUADOR 2027

The ascent of Chimborazo

 EXPEDITIE ECUADOR 2027

Climbing Chimborazo

A 10-day off-grid wilderness expedition for entrepreneurs and high performers - from the deserted high plateaus of the Andes to the icy slopes of the highest active volcanoes in the world.

This is an expedition for those seeking extremes. No luxury resorts. No beaten paths. Instead, a brutal, honest confrontation with altitude, cold, and yourself.

Imagine: you stand on the edge of a crater, surrounded by sulphur and eternal snow, in a landscape that changes every kilometre.

During Expedition Ecuador, you are literally on the equator, in a world where you face altitude sickness, biting winds, and the elements head-on.

The story of
this expedition

From Brussels, you fly to Quito. Upon arrival, we drive deeper into the mountains, along the Volcano Avenue - a row of active volcanoes that crosses Ecuador from north to south. The Volcano Avenue is unique; nowhere else in the world are there so many active volcanoes so close together.

From that moment, the real adventure begins: completely off-grid, self-sufficient, and surrounded by a landscape that takes your breath away. It is the ideal context to push your limits at high altitude, without compromise.

We start on the deserted high plateaus of the Andes, between 3,000 and 5,000 metres. You navigate through terrain where paths do not exist, where the oxygen-poor air cuts deep into your lungs and the icy silence forces you into total focus. Physically challenging, mentally enriching.

The expedition builds up to the highlight: the ascent of Chimborazo, the highest point on Earth when measured from the Earth's centre. You climb technically over rock and ice, with crampons and ice axe, as the sun rises above a sea of clouds.

Right beneath the icy peaks, you set up your camp. The night is clear, the silence complete. These are the moments that stay with you for the rest of your life.

Self-sufficient -
but never alone

As soon as we start, we find ourselves off-grid. We filter water from rivers, cook our freeze-dried expedition food, and set up our camps in places where nature allows.

You will learn survival basics, energy management, navigation, and outdoor decision-making under the guidance of an experienced X-Guide whom you will meet well in advance during the preparation process.

Safety & guidance

Safety is the foundation of every Element X expedition. Our X-Guides are professionally trained, hold WFR certificates, and have years of experience in extreme conditions.

Each expedition is equipped with satellite phones, GPS tracking, clear safety procedures, a detailed evacuation plan, and local support in Ecuador.

Before departure, we also conduct a thorough risk analysis and prepare everything meticulously.
