EXPEDITION CARPATHIANS 2026
Leadership and personal growth
in the mountains of Romania
Imagine: dense forests, misty mountain ridges, deserted valleys and endless heights. A landscape that slows you down, confronts you and sharpens you.
During this expedition, you step out of your daily role and find yourself in situations where choices, responsibility and collaboration really matter. No distractions, no excuses - just you, the group, and what arises.

The story of
this expedition
This expedition does not start in Romania, but months earlier. We go through a personal process in which we get to know you, your context, and your challenges thoroughly. We clarify what you are currently facing in leadership, focus, energy, or direction. From those insights, we formulate clear personal learning objectives.
Only then do we head to Romania. After arrival, we drive into the interior, away from infrastructure and comfort. There, at the edge of the forest, the expedition begins. From that moment on, we move completely off-grid, attuned to the terrain, conditions, and group dynamics.
We mainly move on foot through varying terrain. Dense forests require focus and orientation. Open mountain ridges provide an overview, but also exposure and weather. Long daily stages make fatigue palpable and reveal patterns. The physical effort is real, but achievable. It is that effort that creates space for clarity in thinking and action. Each day feels different, each environment asks something different of you.
Fixed paths are scarce. Navigation is done with map, compass, and mutual coordination. The context changes constantly and requires adjustment. You learn to make decisions with incomplete information and take responsibility for the group. Leadership shifts naturally, depending on the situation and capacity. Sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow. Every choice has immediate consequences.
At the end of the day, we set up camp together. No fixed structures, no unnecessary luxury. Simplicity demands collaboration and clear communication.
The evenings are quiet. The conversations are honest. Reflection by the campfire, concrete and linked to your predetermined learning objectives. Insights that stick because you have experienced them yourself.
The chosen period offers stable conditions and sufficient physical challenge, without extreme circumstances. Ideal for combining focus, rhythm, and depth.
Self-sufficient -
but never alone
As soon as we start, we find ourselves off-grid. We filter water from rivers, cook our freeze-dried expedition food, and set up our camps in places where nature allows.
You will learn survival basics, energy management, navigation, and outdoor decision-making under the guidance of an experienced X-Guide whom you will meet well in advance during the preparation process.
Safety & guidance
Safety is the foundation of every Element X expedition. Our X-Guides are professionally trained, hold WFR certificates, and have years of experience in extreme conditions.
Each expedition is equipped with satellite phones, GPS tracking, clear safety procedures, a detailed evacuation plan, and local support in the Sahara.
Before departure, we also conduct a thorough risk analysis and prepare everything down to the last detail.
No one steps
unprepared into
the unknown.
The preparation process
(min. 3 - 6 months in advance)
always consists of:
a group briefing with
physical analysisa personalised training schedule
technical and resilience training
