The story of this expedition

From Brussels you travel to Canada and on to Labrador, where a charter flight takes us to the far north. Below you a landscape appears that almost nobody ever sees: fjords cutting deep inland, cliffs of fifteen hundred metres and not a single road, settlement or point of light. From that moment the real adventure begins, in a national park with no trails, no infrastructure and no mobile coverage.

We travel on foot through valleys carved out by glaciers, past waterfalls that drop straight into the sea and across plateaus where the rock is among the oldest on earth. No trails, no signposts, only map and compass.

Parts of the route we cover by boat, between icebergs that have drifted down from Greenland. Colossi of blue ice that run aground in the fjord and slowly melt, while you sail around them in a small boat.

This area is managed by the Inuit, and their presence as bear guards is mandatory. They have known this land for generations and share stories, explanations and customs along the way. That presence is not only a safety requirement, it is the richest layer of this expedition.

We deliberately choose July and August: the only window in which the area is reachable, the fjords are free of ice and the temperatures allow camping.

Self-sufficient,
but never alone

As soon as we set off we are off grid. We filter water from glacial streams, cook our own freeze dried expedition food and set up our camps with a watch system that runs through the night.

You learn to navigate by map and compass without trails, and to wait until weather and tide allow it, guided by an experienced X- Guide whom you meet well in advance during the preparation programme.

Safety & guidance

Safety is the foundation of every Element X expedition. Our X Guides are professionally trained, hold WFR certificates and have years of experience in extreme conditions.

Every expedition has satellite phones, GPS tracking, safety procedures, an evacuation plan and local support in Labrador. For polar bears we work with Inuit bear guards and a strict protocol that we train beforehand and apply daily.

Before departure we also carry out a thorough risk analysis and prepare everything down to the last detail.

1. Self-sufficient
2. Safety & guidance

Guided by real expedition leaders.

You step into nature, away from the
beaten track, but always with the certainty of experienced guidance
and safety first.

We let no one step into the unknown unprepared.

An expedition of this calibre starts months in advance. The preparation programme consists of an individual phase and a group phase.

Individual phase
Starts immediately after registration. You receive an inspiration pack with practical tips, insights and exercises to start moving like an expedition member. You gather your expedition gear using the packing list (do not buy anything yet: bring what you already have to the kick off). And you share your medical information, because the best preparation is a plan for when things go wrong.

Group phase
Starts 3 to 6 months before departure with the kick off: a full day on which you meet your team, taste the expedition atmosphere and take the first steps as a group. There we plan the follow-up moments together and the WhatsApp group starts. Training includes, among other things: getting to know the group and roles, physical screening and analysis, a personalised training schedule, technical and resilience training, gear, nutrition and sleep setup, and a final check.

This is an expedition for people who want to go genuinely deep. No trails, no certainties. Instead a pure, raw and exclusive journey through a mountain range that exists on the map but that almost nobody ever sets foot in.

Imagine this: fjords where the water is black with depth, cliffs rising straight out of the sea, icebergs drifting slowly past, and a guide who teaches you where you may and may not walk.

On Expedition Torngat you step into a region the Inuit call the place of spirits: older than almost anything on earth, empty in a way you will find nowhere else, and watched over by people who have been at home there for thousands of years.
