We follow the natural pace of the desert - beginning our trek in the cool hours of the morning, resting during the heat of the day, and continuing our journey as the temperature drops. Hi, I’m Koen De Leeuw, a seasoned expedition leader and survival expert with a background in elite military training. As a former Para Commando, I’ve developed my survival and leadership skills in some of the harshest environments on earth.

My certification as a Wilderness First Responder ensures that safety is always the top priority, no matter how remote or challenging the setting. You might know me as the expedition leader on the TV series 'De Expeditie,' where I guided celebrities through some of the world’s most unforgiving terrains.

With over a decade of global expedition experience, I design and lead life-changing adventures that push your limits, inspire growth, and foster resilience.

03. Training

Training starts 2-3 months before the expedition, including briefings, survival skills, fitness assessments, and gear checks. Regular sessions will build confidence for the Sahara desert.

04. Expedition

You’ll journey through the desert wilderness under expert guidance, using your survival skills to navigate vast dunes, find shade, and set up desert camps—all while we ensure your safety at every step.

Preparation for the expedition starts 3 months prior to the expedition and includes:

Introduction and briefing: You’ll receive a detailed briefing covering gear, safety protocols, and the itinerary, as well as what to expect in the Sahara Desert.
Sports analysis and personalized training plan: We’ll conduct a sports analysis and create a 6-week personalized training plan to ensure you're physically prepared for the expedition.
Technical and physical training: You’ll learn essential desert survival skills, including navigating through dunes, setting up camps, and adapting to desert conditions. Group training sessions will strengthen team dynamics, crucial for success in the Sahara.
Gear check and final briefing: A complete gear check and final briefing will make sure everything is in order before departure. We’ll also review your fitness and address any last-minute questions.
Group training and introduction: Meet your fellow adventurers during group training sessions to build trust and cooperation before the journey begins.
Personal contact and support: A personal contact will be available for any questions throughout the preparation phase, with a WhatsApp group connecting you directly with your guide.

All stays are included:

Hotel/Kasbah stays: Begin and end your Moroccan expedition in charming hotels or Kasbahs, with dinner and breakfast included. These comfortable stays will help you recharge before and after your desert adventure.
Desert camping: For the first few days, you’ll camp in the Sahara, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the dunes. Enjoy traditional Moroccan meals under the stars as you learn essential survival skills and immerse yourself in the desert’s tranquility.
Survival nights: During the core of the expedition, you’ll sleep under the open sky, setting up your own desert shelters with minimal gear. These nights are all about embracing the simplicity and serenity of the Sahara.
Atlas retreat: After the desert challenge, unwind in a scenic retreat nestled in the Atlas Mountains. This peaceful location offers a chance to reflect, relax, and celebrate the journey, surrounded by stunning landscapes and rich Moroccan culture.

Expedition meals: High-energy, easy-to-prepare meals will keep you fueled throughout your journey in the Moroccan desert, providing the necessary nutrition for your days of trekking and exploring.
Traditional Moroccan dinners: Enjoy delicious Moroccan dinners, including local specialties, at the desert camp during the early part of your expedition, offering both comfort and cultural immersion.
Breakfast after Hotel/Kasbah stays: Start each day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel or Kasbah before setting out on your adventure, ensuring you have the energy needed for the day's challenges.

The following transports are included:

Airport transfers in Morocco: From the moment you land in Marrakesh, all transportation is arranged, including transfers to your hotel and throughout the planned activities.
Desert transport: Experience the stunning landscapes of the Sahara in off-road vehicles, allowing you to reach the most remote and beautiful areas of the desert.
Scenic Atlas transfers: As part of your return journey, enjoy scenic drives through the Atlas Mountains, offering a cultural and visual contrast to your desert adventure.

The following expedition equipment is included:

Complete survival gear: We’ll provide everything necessary for a safe and comfortable expedition in the Sahara, including sleeping systems, technical desert clothing, and camping gear tailored to the unique conditions of the desert.
Desert trekking gear: You’ll be equipped with desert carts to carry water and essential supplies, ensuring you’re prepared for the long treks through the vast Sahara landscape. We also provide bivouac covers for your sleeping bags, ensuring a good night’s rest under the stars.
Water and cooking supplies: To ensure hydration and nourishment throughout the expedition, we supply water containers and essential cooking gear. You’ll have everything you need to prepare meals in the desert, including the chance to learn traditional Berber cooking methods, such as baking desert bread.
Essential Berber tools: For building desert shelters, digging, and setting up camp, we provide all the necessary tools, including shovels and compact equipment designed for easy transport across the desert.

Expert guides: You’ll be accompanied by professional Belgian and local guides who specialize in desert survival, ensuring your safety and support throughout the expedition.
Satellite phone: For emergency communication, a satellite phone will be available at all times in case of any unforeseen issues.
First aid and Wilderness First Responders: Our guides are certified in trauma first aid and Wilderness First Response, ensuring expert care is always nearby.

Flights to Marocco: Flights from Belgium to Marrakesh typically range from €150 to €300. We can assist with bookings if needed.
Personal backpack and desert clothing: You will need to bring your own backpack and appropriate clothing for the desert, including long, loose clothing to protect against the sun, a hat, and sturdy desert footwear.
Extra drinks at hotels/Kashbahs: Additional (alcoholic) beverages during hotel stays are not included.
Personal first aid kit: Each participant is responsible for bringing their own basic first aid supplies.
