The story of this expedition

You fly to Arctic Lapland. From there you head deeper into the High North, all the way to the helicopter. And then comes the moment that changes everything: you lift off, the world disappears beneath you, and you are dropped into a vast stretch of frozen wilderness where no one lives and silence prevails. From that moment the real adventure begins: completely off-grid, self-sufficient and dependent on teamwork, trust and shared decisions.

On foot you travel with snowshoes through mighty taiga forests, over ridges and frozen lakes. You learn to navigate without landmarks, using compass, feel, distance and decision-making. The terrain changes constantly and demands constant focus: from hard snow to deep powder, from dense forest to open white-out zones.

We cross several lakes and learn to read, assess and feel the ice. Sometimes you carry your pulka, sometimes you slide it along behind you. Everything is thoroughly prepared, but it stays real. And then comes one of the most memorable moments: we teach you to build a snow cave to sleep in. No signal, no comfort. Only silence, snow and body heat turning a cave into a warm cocoon.

The Arctic is honest and merciless at the same time. Sub-zero temperatures, wind that picks up suddenly, endless silence that becomes almost loud. This is where you learn to rely on your own ability, your team and your preparation. You feel resilience, calm and clarity emerge when you are brought back to the essentials.

We deliberately choose late February and early March: a period with enough daylight and guaranteed snow, exactly what this expedition needs.

Self-sufficient,
but never alone

Once we start, we are off-grid. We filter water from rivers, cook our freeze-dried expedition food and set up our camps in places where nature allows it.

You learn survival basics, energy management, navigation and outdoor decision-making under the guidance of an experienced X- Guide whom you meet well in advance during the preparation programme.

Veiligheid & begeleiding

Safety is the foundation of every Element X expedition. Our X Guides are professionally trained, hold WFR certificates and have years of experience in extreme conditions.

Every expedition has satellite phones, GPS tracking, a cold management plan, safety procedures, an evacuation plan and local support in Lapland.

Before departure we also carry out a thorough risk analysis and prepare everything down to the last detail.

2. Veiligheid & begeleiding

Guided by real expedition leaders.

You step into nature, away from the
beaten track, but always with the certainty of experienced guidance
and safety first.

We let no one step into the unknown unprepared.

An expedition of this calibre starts months in advance. The preparation programme consists of an individual phase and a group phase.

Individual phase
Starts immediately after registration. You receive an inspiration pack with practical tips, insights and exercises to start moving like an expedition member. You gather your expedition gear using the packing list (do not buy anything yet: bring what you already have to the kick off). And you share your medical information, because the best preparation is a plan for when things go wrong.

Group phase
Starts 3 to 6 months before departure with the kick off: a full day on which you meet your team, taste the expedition atmosphere and take the first steps as a group. There we plan the follow-up moments together and the WhatsApp group starts. Training includes, among other things: getting to know the group and roles, physical screening and analysis, a personalised training schedule, technical and resilience training, gear, nutrition and sleep setup, and a final check.

This is an expedition for people who really want to leave their comfort zone. No paths, no certainties. Instead a raw and intensely physical trek through the Arctic, straight into no man’s land after a helicopter drop.

Imagine: an endless white plain, mighty pine forests disappearing into the horizon, the thin air of the High North and a silence that feels almost otherworldly.

During this Lapland expedition you step into a world where cold, wind and emptiness set the rules. It is a place where nothing distracts you, except your own breathing and the crunch of snow under your feet.
