Expedition leader Koen De Leeuw
Our expeditions are developed by Koen De Leeuw: former Para-Commando, certified Wilderness First Responder and expedition leader with over ten years of experience in extreme conditions. His approach combines military precision with warm, people-oriented guidance. Koen is also an expedition leader at De Expeditie, where he led eight BV’s through the pure wilderness in Namibia and Patagonia.
Koen oversees the quality of each expedition, which is guided by our X-Guides: a select team that we train to top level, with strong terrain knowledge, WFR certification and experience in extreme conditions - always supported by the people-oriented approach that characterises Element X.

Our expeditions are led by certified Wilderness First Responders and expedition leaders with years of experience in extreme conditions. We work with clear safety protocols, satellite communication, emergency scenarios and small groups so that we can personally follow up with everyone.
You don’t need to be an elite athlete, but you do need to be motivated. Through our preparation process - physical test, training plan and workshops - we safely build your level up to what is needed for your expedition. We screen participants in advance to ensure everyone is in the right place.
After registration, there will be an intake, physical and mental screening, equipment and survival training, group moments, and concrete assignments. This way, you won't enter the unknown unprepared, but start with confidence, knowledge, and a strong team spirit.
We consciously work in small, carefully composed groups of 6 to 12 people. Participants are mainly high performers and entrepreneurs who are eager to push their own boundaries.
The complete expedition process: preparation process, physical screening, technical workshops, equipment (such as tents, stoves, navigation), all local transport, meals, and guidance. Flights, personal basic clothing, and personal insurance are usually not included.
