EXPEDITION XTREME PATAGONIA | 08/01 - 17/01/2027
A route that has never been done before
A route that has never been done before
The story of this expedition
Our most demanding expedition. You are dropped by helicopter into the rugged wilderness of Patagonia: a route no one has ever done before. From then on the real work starts: work together, find a way out and make your way back to the inhabited world. Completely off-grid and self-sufficient, through valleys, mountain terrain and glaciers. On foot, by packraft, with crampons, through cold rainforest and over ice.
On foot you travel through pristine valleys, over ridges, along glacier tongues and through cold rainforest. The terrain changes constantly: from hard steppe to soft mud, from moss fields to boulders, from open landscape to densely overgrown passages. Every day feels like a new world.
Patagonia is known for its lakes with unreal blue water. You cross them with your packraft, navigate narrow channels and traverse icy rivers coming straight from the glacier. This is raw, pure and incredibly beautiful.
Patagonia is four seasons in one hour. Gusts of wind, sun breaking through suddenly, rain falling horizontally. This is exactly what makes the expedition so authentic. You learn to decide, adapt and anticipate in the wilderness.
We deliberately choose January: the window in which Patagonia is at its most accessible. Fewer extreme storms, longer days and just enough stability.
The story of
this expedition
From Brussels you travel to south-west Chile. And then comes
the moment that makes this expedition unique: you are dropped by helicopter into an immense and deserted wilderness, far from every route, every path and every sign of civilisation. From then on the real work begins: work together, find a way out and make your way back to the inhabited world. Completely off-grid and self-sufficient, through valleys, mountains and glaciers. On foot, by packraft, with crampons, through cold rainforest and over ice.

Self-sufficient,
but never alone
Once we start, we are off-grid. We filter water from rivers, cook our freeze-dried expedition food and set up our camps in places where nature allows it.
You learn to find your own way where there is no path, use your packraft on ice cold water and decide when the weather turns within the hour, guided by an experienced X- Guide whom you meet well in advance during the preparation programme.
Veiligheid & begeleiding
Safety is the foundation of every Element X expedition. Our X Guides are professionally trained, hold WFR certificates and have years of experience in extreme conditions. Exactly the kind of terrain in which Xtreme Patagonia takes place.
Every expedition has satellite phones, GPS tracking, clear safety procedures, an evacuation plan and local support in Patagonia.
Before departure we also carry out a thorough risk analysis and prepare everything down to the last detail.
Guided by real expedition leaders.
You step into nature, away from the
beaten track, but always with the certainty of experienced guidance
and safety first.

We let no one step into the unknown unprepared.
An expedition of this calibre starts months in advance. The preparation programme consists of an individual phase and a group phase.
Individual phase
Starts immediately after registration. You receive an inspiration pack with practical tips, insights and exercises to start moving like an expedition member. You gather your expedition gear using the packing list (do not buy anything yet: bring what you already have to the kick off). And you share your medical information, because the best preparation is a plan for when things go wrong.
Group phase
Starts 3 to 6 months before departure with the kick off: a full day on which you meet your team, taste the expedition atmosphere and take the first steps as a group. There we plan the follow-up moments together and the WhatsApp group starts. Training includes, among other things: getting to know the group and roles, physical screening and analysis, a personalised training schedule, technical and resilience training, gear, nutrition and sleep setup, and a final check.
